5 Minute Major

Aug 16, 2012

In this week's edition of "5 Minute Major," we send Tomahawks prospect and Nashville native Jesse Kessler to the penalty box.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about training camp?
A:
It's always fun getting to know new people and learning to play with them.

Q: What excites you about the possibility of coming to play in Johnstown?
A: The people are all incredibly kind, and there is already tons of support from the community for the new team. Johnstown seems to have a passion for hockey.

Q: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
A: Sewer ball**** is a must. And, I start by putting everything on my left side first.

Q: Are there any NHL players, past or present, whom you admire or try to model your game after?
A: Gordie!

Q: What's on your playlist for warm ups and in the locker room before a game?
A: Kessler lists Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and Work It by Missy Elliot among many others.

**** Sewer Ball has become a popular pre-game warmup for hockey teams. Everyone stands in a circle and kicks a soccer ball back and forth in the air, trying not to let it hit the ground. If you're the man who drops it, you're out. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators, among many other teams, have made this a regular warm-up game.
