Alger Named East Division Star of the Week

Apr 4, 2016

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks announced today that forward Alex Alger has been named the East Division Star of the Week for the week ending April 3, 2016. Alger had five points (five goals, zero assists) in a weekend sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Alger tallied a hat trick, including the overtime winner in Johnstown’s 4-3 victory over the Knights on Friday, April 1. The Livonia, Mich., native scored two goals in a 6-3 win Saturday, April 2.

“It was a great way for us to finish our regular season with a sweep at home in front of great crowds,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. “Alex had missed some games over the last little while and he was all over the puck the entire weekend.”

“He is such a good person and determined player that those type of weekends don’t surprise me even after missing the time. I couldn’t be prouder of him for how he contributed this weekend.

Alger has appeared in 49 games for the Tomahawks, registering 11 goals and 21 assists.

This the first time Alger has earned Star of the Week. Fellow teammates who have earned the award this season include: Niko Coffman (week of 1/18/16), Drew Doyon (week of 12/7/15), Luke Lynch (week of 11/30/15), Anthony Parrucci (week of 2/28/17 and 9/21/15), Adam Pilewicz (week of 10/12/15) and Andrew Romano (week of 1/3/16).

The Tomahawks will battle the New Jersey Titans in the first round of the 2016 Robertson Cup Playoffs in a best of five series. Johnstown hosts Game Three of the series on Friday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m., at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. For more information, go to JohnstownTomahawks.com or call 814-536-GOAL.
