Bednard’s Goals Lead Tomahawks to 2-1 Win

    Shane Bednard scored two goals as the Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Michigan Warriors 2-1 on Saturday night at Perani Arena in Flint, Mich. The win gives the Tomahawks sole possession of second place in the North division, one point ahead of Michigan.

    The Warriors got on the board first, as Cody Lichtenvoort scored a power-play goal at 5:10 of the first period. Sean Campbell provided the assist on the goal, which was the lone power-play goal by either team.

    Bednard got the Tomahawks on the board in the second period, taking a two-on-one pass from Joe Drabin and firing it from the left side past Michigan goaltender Dillon Kelley for a shorthanded goal at 12:02. The goal was Bednard’s 12th of the season and his second shorthanded goal.

    The Tomahawks took the lead, as Bednard took a Drabin pass from behind the Michigan net and shot it past Kelley at 12:55 of the third period. With the goal, Bednard is tied with Brandon Reinholz for the team lead with 13 goals.

    Jake Moore earned the win, stopping 20 of 21 shots. Kelley took the loss, stopping 44 of 45 shots. The Tomahawks outshot the Warriors in every period, including a 16-9 advantage in the third period.
