Bruce Picks Up Star of the Week Honor

Mar 20, 2017

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks and the North American Hockey League announced today that forward Nick Bruce was named the Bauer East Division Star of the Week for the week ending March 18, 2017.

This is the fourth time in the 2016-17 season that Bruce has been honored by the NAHL as the Star of the Week. He represented the East Division at the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in February.

Bruce earned four points (three goals, one assist) during a weekend split with the Aston Rebels March 17-18 at the Cambria County War Memorial.

The Fall River, N.S. native tallied a goal and an assist in March 17’s 3-2 overtime win over the Rebels.

He rounded out an impressive weekend with a two goals against the Rebels in a 3-2 loss.

“Nick had an outstanding weekend for our hockey team,” Tomahawks bench boss Mike Letizia said. “We obviously wanted to get wins on both nights against a very good Aston team, but Nick contributed and factored in on every one of our team’s goals in the two games. He was a difference maker in all three zones, he played extremely hard and given some of the key players that are missing from our lineup, he brought his game to a new level. He has shown this season that he is an elite player and I look forward to seeing his continued success over the last few weeks of the season and during our playoff run.”

The Tomahawks return to the War Memorial Friday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m., for the beginning of a two-game slate with the New Jersey Titans. Friday night is Faith and Family Night sponsored by the Laurel Highlands FCA. Saturday night is the annual Guns & Hoses charity hockey game (4 p.m.) prior to the Tomahawks game at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Advanced Office Systems, The Tax Lady and Firehouse Subs and benefits Special Olympics.
