East Division Defeats Selects Team 4-2

PLYMOUTH, Mich – The Johnstown Tomahawks representatives at the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament scored three points in a 4-2 East Division over the NAHL Selects team win Monday afternoon at the USA Hockey Arena.

Nick Bruce, Daniil Bokun, Adam Pilewicz and Logan Stork played for the East Division, while Dalton Hunter, Filips Buncis and Donovan Ott suited up for the Selects.

The Tomahawks made their presence known early in the game as Ott netted the game’s first goal for the NAHL Selects team. Buncis and Hunter registered the helpers.

The East Division answered right back when Northeast’s Kohei Sato scored on a breakaway to even the score at 1-1.

In the second period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward, Paul Maust, gave the East Division its first lead of the night with his goal at 1:06 of the second period.

The contest was fast-paced as both squads where making the most of the spotlight. The tournament represents a valuable opportunity to showcase abilities in front of hundreds of scouts.

The East took a 3-1 lead in the third period when Jeff Makowski finished a pass from Tomahawks forward Nick Bruce at 11:12 of the period. Sato picked up the secondary assist.

Brookings Blizzard forward Cade Borchardt scored a beautiful goal for the Selects team at 15:51 to cut the East’s lead to 3-2.

However, Aston’s Drew Blackmun salted the game at 4-2 with an assist from Bruce and Dom Garcia.

The East Division completes the two-day Top Prospects Tournament tomorrow at 11 a.m. against the Central Division at the USA Hockey Arena. The Selects team faces the United States National Team at 5 p.m.
