Fairbanks Edges Hawks

Fairbanks, AK- In the final game match up of the weekend, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks 3-1 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena Saturday night.
Most of the opening period was scoreless until Luke Orysiuk scored for the Ice Dogs with 3:33 left in the first period.
The rest of the first period remained scoreless with many saves by both goalies, Jack Leavy and Josh Benson.
In the second period, both teams exchanged chances, testing each netminder but the score remained 1-0.
Fairbanks Daniel Haider scored with 8:39 left in the second period giving the Ice Dogs a 2-0 lead midway through the second period.
In the third period, the Tomahawks and Ice Dogs exchanged chances once again with Johnstown looking to break the zero on the scoreboard.
Tomahawks forward Samuel Solensky scored late in the third period with 1:28 left in the game to put the Tomahawks on the score board and move the score to 2-1.
The Ice Dogs responded with a goal from Jax Murray at the 1:16 mark of the third period which was enough to defeat the Tomahawks 3-1.
Johnstown returns to action on Friday, February 16 when the team meets the Kenai River Brown Bears at the Soldotna Sports Complex. The game is set for an 11:30 p.m. faceoff.
