Glander Backstops Tomahawks to 2-1 Victory

Feb 12, 2016

JOHNSTOWN – A 22-save performance by goaltender Ryan Glander aided the Johnstown Tomahawks to a 2-1 victory over the Aston Rebels Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The period began with each team throwing shots on net but none would find the back of the cage.

The Tomahawks broke the scoreless tie at 16:55 of the first period when Andrew Romano fluttered a puck through the open five-hole of Aston goalie Darion Hanson.

Johnstown and Aston skated into the first intermission with the Tomahawks leading 1-0.

In the middle period, the Rebels gained the momentum after a series of quality shifts in the Tomahawks defensive zone.

However, the momentum shifted when Anthony Parrucci was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked on a breakaway. Parrucci was denied by the post but gained the Tomahawks momentum back in the game.

Johnstown increased the lead to 2-0 at 18:39 of the second after a Luke Lynch goal. Romano and Casey Linkenheld assisted on Lynch’s 23rd of the season.

Evgeny Yakovlev brought the Rebels back within one goal when his wrist shot beat Glander midway through period three.

The Tomahawks withstood a barrage of shots from Aston as Glander stood tall and secured the Tomahawks the victory.

Hanson stopped 15 of 17 Johnstown shots in the loss while Glander picks up his sixth win, denying 23 of 24 shots.

Aston and Johnstown return to the War Memorial Saturday Feb.13 for Little League Night and the conclusion of Youth Hockey Weekend. Face-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. For more information, call 814-536-GOAL and for tickets visit the War Memorial Box Office.
