Ice Dogs Skate Past Tomahawks 5-2

Johnstown, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks hosted the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a physical New Year’s Eve game at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial with Fairbanks edging out Johnstown, 5-2.
The Tomahawks got on the board first when Joey Baez scored his second goal of the season at 5:56. The goal was unassisted.
Exactly a minute later, Fairbanks tied the game when Luke Orysiuk scored his second goal of the season. The lone assist went to Caleb Hite.
The Tomahawks retook the lead towards the end of the period when Roman Kraemer netted his ninth of the season. It was assisted by Joey Baez, his second point of the night.
After a physical first period, which included two fights, the Tomahawks had the lead, 2-1.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs took over the game in the second period scoring three straight.
The Ice Dogs tied the game only 1:32 into the middle frame when Erkka Vanska scored his thirteenth goal of the season. It was unassisted.
The Ice Dogs then took a 3-2 lead when Samuel Ruffin scored his twelfth goal of the year. The assists went to Noah Wilson and Jack Johnston at 2:12.
The Ice Dogs would add another goal at 19:19 when Tanner Schachle netted his fourteenth goal of the season. The assist went to Robert Blueger.
After two periods of play, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs lead 4-2.
In the third, Fairbanks added to their lead at 15:05 with a goal from Robert Blueger. The assists went to Tanner Schachle and John Stampohar.
Fairbanks held onto the lead to give them the 5-2 win.
The Tomahawks are back in action next weekend when Johnstown hosts the Kenai River Brown Bears at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial. On Friday, January 5, 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Kennedy will drop the ceremonial first puck and meet fans during the game. It’s also Health and Wellness Night presented by Highmark.
