NAHL Names Johnstown Tomahawks

2012-2013 Organization of the Year

Johnstown, Pa. – The Johnstown Tomahawks are pleased to announce the team has been named the “2012-2013 Organization of the Year” by the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

“We are thrilled to receive such an honor from the NAHL and its coaches,” said Team President Rick Bouchard. “Our dedicated fans, sponsors, and hard-working front office staff helped the team to thrive this season, and we are beyond grateful for the acknowledgment from our peers.”

Several accomplishments highlighted the Tomahawks inaugural season in the NAHL, including making a Robertson Cup Playoff appearance, helping three players to make NCAA Division I commitments, and contributing to the greater Johnstown community. The Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation directly donated and assisted with donations exceeding $25,000 during the inaugural 2012-2013 season. By providing both donations and assisting with community events, the team contributed to hundreds of local charitable, non-profit, and youth hockey organizations.

In making the announcement, the league also highlighted the Tomahawks’ average attendance of just under 2,600, fifth-best in the NAHL.

“That’s an impressive stat for a first-year team in a market that had never witnessed NAHL action,” the league noted. “Johnstown is a hockey town, and the fans proved it once again by welcoming the NAHL’s Johnstown Tomahawks with enthusiasm as the team revitalized a community with a rich hockey tradition.”

General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations Rick Boyd said the Tomahawks would continue to be active in the community throughout the summer months and that the award is a reflection of the region’s passion for hockey.
