NAHL Top Prospects Tournament Recap

Feb 24, 2015

The Johnstown Tomahawks were represented by three players this week at the 2015 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. The tournament, held in Ann Arbor, Mich. this year, provides the top players in the North American Hockey League the opportunity to play in front of NCAA and NHL scouts.

Forwards Tanner Barnes and Joe Drabin suited up for the North Division team, which went 0-2 against the Central and Midwest Division teams. Barnes registered two shots in each game, while Drabin scored against the Midwest Division team in Tuesday's game.

Ryan Bednard was chosen as one of the two goaltenders for the NAHL Selects team, made up of players who have already made college commitments. Bednard served as the backup for the first game, before getting the 3-2 shootout win against Team USA 17U. Bednard stopped 26 of 28 shots in regulation and overtime, along with all four shots he faced in the shootout.

All three players will make the trip back to Alaska, where the Tomahawks will take on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs this Friday and Saturday at 11:30 p.m. EST. The team returns home March 7-8 to take on the Springfield Jr. Blues, the first of eight March home games.
