Rebels Outlast Tomahawks

JOHNSTOWN – Despite rallying from a 2-0 deficit, the Johnstown Tomahawks were outlasted by the Aston Rebels 3-2 Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Aston scored the game’s first goal when Andrew Noel fired a shot from the right circle that beat Tomahawks goalie Drew Hotte glove side. Auggie Moore registered the lone helper on the goal.

The Rebels gained a 2-0 lead midway through the second period after Dom Garcia’s 13th goal of the season. Gvido Jansons assisted on the goal.

The Tomahawks, looking for a response, found a way to beat Rebels goalie Jack Leavy at 14:10 of the second period.

Edward Hirka’s homerun pass found the stick of forward Nick Bruce who converted on the breakaway for his 20th of the season to cut the Rebels lead to 2-1.

In the third period, the Tomahawks tied the game with Bruce’s second goal of the game just eight seconds into the frame. Donovan Ott and Dalton Hunter assisted on the marker.

The tie game didn’t last long as the Rebels regained their lead with an Andrew Bellant goal which turned out to be the game winning goal.

Hotte stopped 35 of 38 Rebels shots in defeat while Leavy stopped 15 of 17 Tomahawks shots on goal.

The Tomahawks return to the War Memorial on Friday, March 25 for the start of a two-game series with the New Jersey Titans.
