Richland Product Pursuing Hockey Dreams

May 1, 2014

Like many high school hockey players, Tyler Hudak has been working on improving his game and taking the next step in his hockey career. Hudak took that next step, being named to the Pittsburgh Penguins AAA Elite team. Hudak will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Jake Houston and Luke Lynch, who each received Tomahawks tender offers as members of the Pittsburgh Penguins AAA Elite team. Former Tomahawks goaltender Colin DeAugustine was also a former member of the Pittsburgh Penguins AAA Elite team.

Hudak tried out for the Tomahawks last season, and is expected to do so again this season.  As a member of the Richland Rams during their Laurel Mountains Hockey League championship run, the defenseman was an important part of the team and left an impact on his coach. “Tyler is a great two way defenseman. He can help shut down a team’s best players, and can also facilitate the play on the offensive side of the ice. His work ethic, on and off the ice, is his greatest attribute,” said Rams head coach JJ Vasilko.

Hudak now attends Shady Side Academy, where he played for the school’s hockey team. He appeared in 11 games for the Indians, scoring four points (2G-2A). Shady Side Academy finished in second place in their division and went 1-2 in postseason play.

The Tomahawks will host three tryout camps, starting May 30 and June 1 in Mt. Clemens, Mich. The team will also hold camps in West Dundee Ill. (June 13-15) and Warrendale, PA (June 27-29). For more information, or to register for a tryout camp, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com.
