Seven Tomahawks Selected For NAHL Top Prospects Tournament

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks proudly announced today that forwards Nick Bruce and Tommy Horn and defensemen Daniil Bokun and Adam Pilewicz will represent the East Division at the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Dalton Hunter, Filips Buncis and Donovan Ott will suit up for the NAHL Selects team.

The tournament takes place Feb. 27-28 at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. his event is one of the most highly scouted events of the season. Each of the division teams and the Selects team will participate in two showcase games.

“Being able to send seven players in total to the Top Prospects event is an outstanding opportunity for our organization and these fine young men,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. “Each of them has been an integral part of our season contributing on many different levels and in many ways. They are all very deserving of this selection and I am extremely eager to see how each of them performs at this prestigious event.”

In his first season with the Tomahawks, Bruce has proven to be a valuable member to the Tomahawks arsenal. In 40 games, the Fall River, Nova Scotia native has collected 15 goals and 25 assists.

Horn also is a key player for the Tomahawks with his mix of grit and skill. An assistant captain, he scored nine goals and 15 assists in 33 games so far on the campaign.

A native of Minsk, Belarus, Bokun places second among Tomahawks defenseman with 18 points (three goals, 15 assists). Pilewicz, an assistant captain, leads Hawks defenders with 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) in 40 games played.

The HBO Line of Hunter, Buncis and Ott will suit up with the NAHL Selects team.

Hunter recently committed to Mercyhurst and is the Tomahawks’ leading scorer with 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists) on the season. Buncis, the team’s captain, is tied for tops on the team with 25 assists. He has contributed eight goals as well.

Pennsylvania native Ott ranks second on the team in goals (22) and third in points (39).

The Tomahawks are back home for a two-game series with the New Jersey Titans February 17-18 at the War Memorial. Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. the Tomahawks host Penguins alumnus Pierre Larouche (courtesy of TUDI Mechanical) to meet fans and drop the ceremonial first puck. Additionally, Friday’s game is Red Out Night presented of HealthCare First Credit Union with fans encouraged to wear red to support heart health.

Saturday night is Youth Hockey Night and a Thundersticks giveaway presented by Claysburg Pizza. The first 1,500 fans will receive Thundersticks to cheer on the Hawks.
