Strong First Period Leads Tomahawks To 5-2 Victory Over Titans

MIDDLETOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks scored on four of six shots in the first period, en route to a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Titans Saturday night at Middletown Ice World. Johnstown earned three of four points in the weekend series, moving them into sole possession of second place in the East Division.

 

The Tomahawks got on the board with their first shot of the game, as Kelly O’Brien scored at 8:39 of the first period. Zak Galambos added the assist on O’Brien’s 13th goal of the season.

 

Less than a minute later, Andrew Romano extended the lead with his 12th goal of the season. Casey Linkenheld picked up the assist on the goal, giving him four points in the two-game series.

 

The Titans got on the board later in the first period, as Victor Ostling scored at 12:00. Jesse Farabee and Tony DeVito earned the assists on the goal.

 

O’Brien regained the two-goal lead, scoring his second goal of the period at 14:56. Tommy Horn added the assist on the goal.

 

Galambos ended the first period scoring for the Tomahawks, picking up his sixth goal of the season at 18:07. Ryan Burr provided the assist on the power-play goal.

 

Dakota Ford made it a 4-2 game late in the third period, before Filips Buncis set the final score with an empty-net goal at 17:57.

 

Andrew Lindgren earned the win, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Spencer Wright suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 28 shots. The Tomahawks and Titans combined for 67 penalty minutes.
