Summer Player Update: Mitch Kontny

Jul 7, 2013

In our latest installment of summer updates from your Hawks, we check in with former Tomahawks Captain, Mitch Kontny.

What have you been up to this summer?

I have been working 40 hours a week, training, playing golf and trying to get out fishing if the weather cooperates.

Do you still keep in touch with your Tomahawks teammates?

Yeah, I talk to some of them on a daily basis. I went on my visit to River Falls with (Jeff) Bergh and after the season I went down and visited (Andrew) McDonald!

What are you most looking forward to at UW-River Falls?

It might sound weird, but I'm looking forward to starting school again! After getting a semester under my belt during last season, I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.

What will you miss most about Johnstown and playing for the Tomahawks?

Well, obviously I’m going to miss all of the guys. They were like brothers to me, and I won't forget any of the moments we all shared. But I will miss playing in front of all our passionate fans too!

What is your favorite memory as a Tomahawk?

My favorite memory as a Tomahawk would have to be the home opener! I've never been a part of anything like that and probably never will again.

Your favorite team is the Chicago Blackhawks. Who is your favorite player on the team and how excited were you about them winning the Cup?

Well, I like all of them, but if I had to pick one it would have to be Patrick Kane. Let’s just say there were a few victory laps around the house.
