Tomahawks Alger Named North Division Star of the Week

Mar 2, 2015

JOHNSTOWN, PA –The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that forward Alex Alger has been named the North Division Star of the Week, for the week ending March 1, 2015.

Alger scored four points (2 goals, 2 assists) as the Tomahawks split last weekend’s games against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Along with the four points, Alger provided the game-winner in the third round of Saturday night’s 4-3 shootout victory. Alger also scored six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in the two games against Kenai River.

Since being acquired from the Odessa Jackalopes on Feb. 2, the Livonia, Mich. native has appeared in nine games for the Tomahawks, scoring 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists).

Before arriving in Johnstown, Alger played in 43 games for Odessa this season, scoring 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists). Last season, Alger scored 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) in 56 games for the Jackalopes.

“Alex stepped up in a huge way for us this week offensively. We acquired Alex a few weeks ago to bring in additional offense to our team and he has delivered since his arrival. Even bigger this week was the timing and magnitude of his scoring for our team. Alex is an outstanding kid and very deserving of this recognition,” said Tomahawks head Coach Mike Letizia.

Forward Zac Robbins was also named an honorable mention for the award, after scoring four points against the Ice Dogs. Robbins had two goals in the 6-4 loss on Friday night and two assists in the shootout win.

The Tomahawks host Springfield at the Cambria County War Memorial this Saturday and Sunday. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com or call 814-536-4625.
