Tomahawks Capture 8th Straight Win in 3-0 Shutout of Fairbanks

Jan 1, 2017

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks pitched a 3-0 shutout of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in front of 3,733 fans at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena Saturday night.

The first goal of the game came from the Tomahawks as affiliate player Roman Kraemer made a move around a Fairbanks defenseman and sent a pass cross ice to forward Samuel Solensky who netted his eighth of the season. Brandon Young picked up the secondary assist on the tally.

Fairbanks would put pressure on the Tomahawks in the second period by generating quality scoring chances throughout the middle frame.

Johnstown goaltender Drew Hotte battled through the chances and kept the score at 1-0 by the end of the second period.

Once again, the third period saw little offense chances but finally the Tomahawks would break through and put the game at 2-0 when Donovan Ott wrapped around a goal past Fairbanks goaltender Josh Benson. Nick Bruce was credited with the assist.

Ott put the game out of reach with his second of the game and fourth of the weekend at 18:15 of the third period.

The 3-0 win moved Johnstown to 4-0-1 all-time in New Year’s Eve hockey games.

Hotte stopped all 32 Fairbanks shots on goal in his 11th victory of the season. Benson suffered his first loss of the season in a 17-save performance.
