Tomahawks Earn Point in Overtime Loss

JOHNSTOWN – The Aston Rebels squeaked out a 3-2 overtime victory against the Johnstown Tomahawks Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Aston scored the game’s first goal at 12:07 of the first period when Dom Garcia used a great individual effort to slide the puck behind Tomahawks goaltender Britt League . Ryan Patrick picked up the lone assist on Garcia’s sixth of the season.

The Tomahawks wasted little time at tying the hockey game at 1-1 as Andy Iehle fired a wrist shot off the post and past Mareks Mitens at 12:41 of the first period.

Johnstown controlled the pace of the game in the second period and capitalized on the momentum swing at 14:31. Filips Buncis received a pass from Sam Solensky and fired home a shot to give the Tomahawks a 2-1 lead.

Aston tied the game seven minutes into the third period when Evgeny Yakovlev poked the puck into the back of the net. His goal was assisted by Aaron Maguyon.

The game went into overtime where Brennan Kapcheck for the Rebels won the game at 2:18 of the extra frame.

In the loss, League stopped 18 of 21 shots on goal and his record fell to 4-0-1. Mitens stayed hot and stopped 29 of 31 shots.

The Tomahawks are back on the road next weekend on Friday, Nov. 18 when they take on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Johnstown returns to the War Memorial on Friday, Nov. 25 for the start of Black & Gold Weekend when they take on the Knights.
