Nov 22, 2015

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks earned one point in close 3-2 shootout loss to the New Jersey Titans Sunday afternoon at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Dalton Hunter cracked the scoreless tie early in the first period when his wrist shot found a home past Titans goalie Jack Berry. Alex Alger and Adam Pilewicz registered assists on the goal.

Both Johnstown and New Jersey peppered shots at their respective goalies but the first period came to a close with Johnstown leading 1-0

After a hard-working shift, the Tomahawks struck again.

Hunter stole a puck in the corner and backhanded a puck through Berry’s five hole to give Johnstown a 2-0 lead.

New Jersey’s Bruno Birzitis would get New Jersey on the board with his power play goal late in the middle frame.

The Tomahawks defense went to work in the third period keeping New Jersey away from the net until Darren Brady fired a puck past Tomahawks goalie Andrew Lindgren to tie it late and send the game into overtime.

Overtime was scoreless so the teams decided the game in the shootout.

Titans forward Andrew Durham scored the shootout’s only goal gave earned New Jersey the extra point.

Lindgren stopped 26 of 29 in the loss which brings his record with the Tomahawks to 0-2-1. Jack Berry picked up the victory, his tenth of the season, for a record of 10-5-1.

The Tomahawks resume an 11-game homestand next weekend Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 when they host the Aston Rebels. Both games are set of a 7 p.m. faceoff with Nov. 28 being Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw onto the ice when the Tomahawks score their first goal. Visit johnstowntomahawks.com for more information.
