Tomahawks End Showcase with 5-1 Loss to Odessa

BLAINE, MinnThe Johnstown Tomahawks concluded the 2017 NAHL Showcase with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday afternoon at Schwan Super Rink.
The Jackalopes got on the scoreboard first when Brenden Stanko scored off a Tomahawks turnover for his first of the season. Peyton Frantti assisted on the goal.

 

Odessa added to their lead at 9:53 of the first period when Petr Miko batted the puck out of mid-air past the outstretched glove of Johnstown netminder Vinnie Purpura. Nick Wilson and Evan Rochowiak assisted on the marker.

 

In the second period, Odessa would add to their lead.

 

Former Tomahawks forward Evan Somoza scored his third goal in as many days 30 seconds into the frame to give Odessa a 3-0. The goal came on the man advantage.

 

The Jackalopes scored another goal late in the second period to make it 4-0. Lucas Andersson fired a slap shot past Purpura with less than three minutes remaining. Zac Herrmann and Viktor Johansson registered the helpers on the goal.

 

Johnstown found the scoreboard before the second period ended to move the score to 4-1 with a power play goal from Roman Kraemer. His second of the season was assisted by Matyas Kacirek and Mitchell Hale.

 

Odessa added their fifth and final goal of the afternoon with Miko’s second of the game late in the third period. Herrmann and Rochowiak assisted on the goal.

 

Johnstown will continue its road trip with a weekend series with the Philadelphia Rebels starting Saturday, Sept. 30. Johnstown opens the 2017-18 home portion of their schedule on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.
