Tomahawks Fall to Fighting Falcons 3-1 on Opening Night

The Johnstown Tomahawks opened the 2013-2014 season with a bang, including HockeyFest, an appearance by Bill Guerin and a pre-game fireworks display. When the smoke cleared, Port Huron picked up the 3-1 win in front of 3,025 fans at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena Saturday night.

Port Huron got on the board first, as Austin Romzek lit the lamp at 7:32 of the first period. Johnstown tied the game just over a minute later, as Zach Wallace fired a shot past Max Milosek at 8:43. The assists on the Tomahawks goal came from Tyler Basham and Jaycob McCombs.

The score stayed the same until Connor Enciso scored the game-winner 6:59 into the second period. The final score was set on an empty net goal by Mitch Maloney with seven seconds remaining in the game.

Neither team was able to score on the power play, with Johnstown going 0-for-2 and Port Huron going 0-for-7.

The Tomahawks conclude the weekend series with a 3 p.m. game on Sunday afternoon, before traveling to Blaine, MN for the 2013 NAHL Showcase.
