Tomahawks Fall in Shootout to Knights 3-2

Johnstown, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks could not complete a late comeback, falling 3-2 in the shootout to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights Friday night.
The only goal of the first period went in Johnstown’s favor. Christian Gorscak beat Knights’ goalie, Christian Stoever, after receiving a wonderful pass from behind the net. The assists went to Andrew Andary and Pavel Kharin at 9:08.
The goal was Gorscak’s first of the season and first as a Tomahawk.
In the second period it was the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights who’d score the period’s only goal. At 6:31, while on the power play, Reed Robinson put a puck past Johnstown’s goalie, Britt League. The lone assist went to Michael Morrissey.
The two teams went into the third period tied, 1-1.
The Knights pulled ahead in the third period after Matt Kidney scored on a breakaway. The assist went to Jack Olmstead at 6:42.
In the final moments of the game, Johnstown pulled their goalie to try and tie things and did just that with only .2 seconds left on the clock. Toby Sengvongxay scored the last second goal with the assist going to Andy Nedeljkovic.
With the game tied, 2-2, the game went into overtime.
In overtime, both teams exchanged chances but neither team could score, so the game went to a shootout.
In the shootout it took seven rounds but Knights’ Gabe Temple gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the 3-2 shootout win over the Johnstown Tomahawks.
Britt League stopped 32 of 34 shots in the overtime loss.
Johnstown Tomahawks are back in action tomorrow night (November 11, 2017) at home as they take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights once again at 7pm. Military Appreciation weekend continues as we’ll honor our Veterans with a special pre-game concert featuring 9-year veteran of the US Army Bands, John Homerski and the Flood City Brass. Veterans and active military personal receive free tickets to the game. There will be a post-game jersey auction which will benefit the Conemaugh Valley Veterans. It’s also the annual Boys Scouts Troop Night with souvenir military event patch giveaway.
