Sep 19, 2016

PITTSBURGH – The Johnstown Tomahawks concluded their two-game exhibition series with Team USA with a 5-2 defeat Sunday night at the RMU Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh.

Much like the game before, the Americans scored the game’s first goal with an Oliver Wahlstrom tally.

After a back-and-forth first period, the Tomahawks would tie the game early in the middle frame when Donovan Ott’s backhander beat USA goalie Ryan Ullan.

The tie game was short-lived when Wahlstrom netted his second of the contest and fourth in two nights.

Patrick Giles increased the American’s lead to 3-1 with a goal near the end of the second period.

In the third period, Team USA scored two more goals from the stick of Jonathan Gruden, including a short-handed marker.

Ott brought the score to 5-2 with a goal for Johnstown in the final minutes of the period but the Americans skated away with the win.

Britt League stopped 18 shots from Team USA attackers while Ullan stopped 30 of 32 Tomahawks shots.

Johnstown now shifts focus to the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minn. The team takes on the Springfield Jr. Blues Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 11:15 a.m. CST. Be sure to follow the Tomahawks on all of their social media accounts for updated action during the showcase.
