Tomahawks Finish Showcase 3-1 After Loss to Lone Star

BLAINE, Minn. – In their first ever meeting, the Johnstown Tomahawks and Lone Star Brahmas combined for eight goals. In the end, a pair of third period goals gave the Brahmas picked up the 5-3 victory Saturday afternoon.

 

The Tomahawks earned their best finish at the showcase in team history, finishing with a 3-1 record.

 

            Oskar Andren opened the scoring for Lone Star (4-0-1), scoring 6:35 into the first period. Kyle Patava added an assist on the goal.

 

            Dante Suffredini tied the game with his first goal of the season at 14:43 of the first period. Filips Buncis added the assist on the goal.

 

            Peter Bates regained the lead for the Brahmas, scoring with 1:52 remaining in the first period. Less than a minute later, Tomas Brejcha extended the lead with his second goal of the season.

 

            Alex Alger pulled Johnstown (4-2-0) back within one, scoring at 11:14 of the second period. Alger now has five points (three goals, two assists) in his last five games.

 

            Dalton Skelly and Hogan Davidson picked up goals in the third period to extend the Lone Star lead to 5-2.

 

            Buncis got the Tomahawks back within two, scoring his second goal of the season with 43 seconds remaining in regulation. Cam Smith and Tommy Horn each added assists on the goal.

 

            Conor O’Brien earned the win, stopping 15 of 18 shots. Jake Gwillim stopped 27 of 32 shots in the loss. The Tomahawks went 0-for-3 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

 

            Johnstown opens its 2015-16 home schedule Oct. 16 and 17 against New Jersey, with a special appearance by Hockey Hall of Famer and National Hockey League legend Bobby Hull scheduled for the Oct. 16 game.
