Tomahawks Historic Inaugural Season Comes to a Close Sunday Afternoon at the War Memorial Arena

Tomahawks fall to the Port Huron Fighting Falcons, 4-3, in overtime

of Game 3 of the North Division Play-In Series

The Johnstown Tomahawks officially concluded their inaugural 2012-2013 season on Sunday, April 7 when they fell to the Port Huron Fighting Falcons, 4-3, in overtime at the War Memorial Arena in Game 3 of the North Division Play-In Series. The loss comes two days after the Tomahawks forced a Game 3 after shutting out the Fighting Falcons, 2-0, on Friday night and eliminates them from the 2013 Robertson Cup Playoffs.

The Tomahawks concluded the regular season with a record of 27-21-12, earning fifth place in the North Division and a Playoff berth. The organization also completed the regular season with the fifth-best attendance record in the league, which saw a 12 percent increase in fans-per-game from last season.

The Tomahawks first season in Johnstown was highlighted by outstanding fan support, strong community involvement and a dedication to assisting charitable and non-profit organizations through the Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation. In addition, the Tomahawks worked to achieve their goal of creating an exciting in-game atmosphere through numerous promotional game nights. Among these were Guns & Hoses Night honoring local police, fire, and EMS departments, Pink at the Rink to raise awareness and funds for cancer in collaboration with Conemaugh Health System, Veteran’s and Military Appreciation Night, Hanson Brothers Night, and Fan Appreciation Weekend.

“We cannot thank the people of Johnstown and the surrounding areas enough for the support they have shown us over the past season,” said Team President Rick Bouchard. “This community has embraced us with an enthusiasm that makes us all proud to call Johnstown home to the Tomahawks.”

The Tomahawks became part of Johnstown’s historic hockey history when Johnstown Sports Partners LLC, a private investment group led by Esmark, Inc. Chairman and CEO James P. Bouchard announced in conjunction with the North American Hockey League (NAHL) that it completed the acquisition of the NAHL’s Alaska Avalanche in early May. The team relocated the franchise to Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Despite an early exit from the 2013 Robertson Cup Playoffs, the Tomahawks will be active in the community throughout the spring and summer months at a variety of events. In addition, while the front office staff and coaches continue to scout the most talented young players to don Tomahawks uniforms next fall, the Tomahawks organization will also be preparing for next season.
