Tomahawks Open NAHL Showcase Wednesday

Sep 22, 2015

The Johnstown Tomahawks are in Blaine, Minn. this week for the 2015 North American Hockey League Showcase. Three of the Tomahawks four showcase opponents appeared in the Robertson Cup Playoffs last season, including South Division champion Lone Star.

“The league showcase is a fantastic event to promote our players and the league as a whole. Every scout from college hockey and the NHL are in attendance to watch so it is a great platform for players to show what they can do,” said Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia.

The Tomahawks open the showcase Wednesday afternoon against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at 2:30 p.m. The Tomahawks and Ice Rays last met during the 2012 showcase, a 5-3 Ice Rays victory that featured a combined 188 penalty minutes and 10 misconducts.

Corpus Christi opened the season last weekend, splitting a pair of games against Topeka.

On Thursday morning, Johnstown takes on the Brookings Blizzard at 11:30 a.m. The Tomahawks played the Blizzard in their inaugural NAHL Showcase game, falling 4-2. Brookings enters the showcase 2-0, after sweeping Minot last weekend.

The Tomahawks face an opponent for the first time in team history on Friday, as they take on the Coulee Region Chill at 8 p.m. This will be the first games of the season for the Chill, who finished third in the Midwest Division last season.

Johnstown closes out the showcase Saturday afternoon, taking on the Lone Star Brahmas for the first time. The Brahmas finished last season with a 40-12-8 record, advancing to the Robertson Cup Semi-Finals.
