Tomahawks Score Early, Defeat Warriors 2-1

            The Johnstown Tomahawks took advantage of a pair of first period goals and a solid goaltending performance by Jake Gwillim as they defeated the Michigan Warriors 2-1 in Friday night in Flint, Mich. The win is the Tomahawks first division win of the season.

Luke Lynch got the Tomahawks on the board with his second goal of the season 4:02 into the first period. Andrew Romano and Alex Jaeckle provided the assists on the power-play goal.

Later in the first period, Romano extended the Tomahawks lead to 2-0. Steve Quagliata and Jaeckle were credited with the assists. Romano now has five points (3G-2A) in his last five games.

            The score remained the same until the second period, when AJ Marcinek got the Warriors within one at 14:52. Mitch Wedding and Nich Mosher earned the assists on the Warriors first power-play goal of the season. The Warriors had several opportunities late in the game, but Gwillim and the Tomahawks defense held on for the victory.

            Gwillim earned his second win of the season, stopping 48 of 49 shots. Trevor Gorsuch fell to 0-3, allowing two goals on 24 shots. The Tomahawks scored on their lone power-play opportunity, while going 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

            The Tomahawks conclude their weekend series against the Warriors tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Tomahawks are off the following weekend, before returning to Michigan to take on the Warriors Oct. 10 and 11.
