Tomahawks Send Seven Players to Top Prospects Tournament

Jan 25, 2016

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks proudly announce today that forwards Kelly O’Brien and Andrew Romano as well as defensemen Ryan Burr and Niko Coffman will represent the East Division team for the 2016 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Forwards Luke Lynch and Filips Buncis plus defenseman Zak Galambos will suit up for the NAHL Selects team.

The tournament takes place Feb. 15-16 at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. This event is one of the most highly-scouted events of the season. Each of the division teams and the Selects team will participate in two showcase games.

“It’s an outstanding accomplishment for our players to be selected to represent both the East division as well as the NAHL selects team. All 7 players definitely deserve it and I feel will represent our organization greatly,” Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said.

Through 38 games this season, O’Brien has tallied 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) in his first season in Johnstown. Romano sits second on the team in points (36) and leads the team in assists with 25 helpers.

Burr and Coffman are tied for first among Tomahawks defensemen in goals (5).

Buncis, Galambos and Lynch will play for the Selects team at the tournament, which is comprised of players with college commitments.

A native of Jelgava, Latvia, Buncis has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 31 games played. He represented Latvia at the U20 World Championships in December where he helped his country win the tournament.

Lynch has been an important part of the Tomahawks offense, earning 18 goals and 19 assists in 38 games played. The Pittsburgh native is committed to play for Robert Morris University.

Galambos leads all Tomahawk defensemen in points (20) and power-play goals (3).

Letizia commented that the Top Prospects Tournament is a great way for the Tomahawks to showcase and help move players to the next level.

“One of the biggest goals we have here is to give our players an opportunity to move on to higher levels of hockey and the Top Prospects offers a great stage to do that,” Letizia said.  “I look forward to seeing how they all do in a few weeks.”
