WALPOLE, Mass – The Johnstown Tomahawks used two-goal performances from Joe Kile and Dalton Hunter to defeat the Northeast Generals 6-3 at the Rodman Ice Arena in Walpole, Mass., Friday afternoon.

Johnstown forward Filips Buncis received a reward for a tremendous individual effort with his goal at 8:41 of the first period to give the Tomahawks a 1-0 lead. Dalton Hunter and Zak Galambos picked up the assists on Buncis’ third of the season.

The Tomahawks added to their lead seven minutes later when Kile sniped a shot glove-side on Generals goalie David Fessenden. The goal went unassisted.

Northeast would storm back into the game with two goals midway through the second period from Kohei Sato and Devin Pierce.

However, the Tomahawks would regain the lead with three minutes remaining in the second period. Samuel Solensky fired home a pass from Tommy Horn to put the score at 3-2.

Hayden Rowan registered the secondary assists on Solensky’s fifth of the season.

Johnstown wasted little time taking a two-goal lead early in the third period.

Hunter tucked the puck on a wraparound behind Fessenden just 43 seconds into the final period. For Hunter, the goal was his ninth of the season.

Sato would cut the lead to 4-3 with his second of the game midway through the third.

The Tomahawks added another goal one minute later to make the score 5-3 after Hunter finished an Andy Iehle feed.

Kile scored his second goal of the night with an empty-net goal to set the score at 6-3.

Vinnie Purpura earned his fourth win of the season to improve his record to 4-1-0 on the season. He stopped 34 shots in the victory.

Fessenden stopped 38 Tomahawks shots in the loss, moving his record to 1-5-0 on the young season.

Johnstown returns to the road Friday, October 28 with a two-game series against the Aston Rebels. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
