By Ed Sheets

Omar Mullan & Tyler Basham scored goals in regulation, and Mitch Hall provided the game-winner in the shootout as the Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Springfield Jr. Blues 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The win gives the Tomahawks the weekend sweep and their fourth straight win.

Sunday’s game was also the second annual Pucks N’ Paws promotion, with 62 dogs in attendance for the victory. Two- and four-legged fans were able to enjoy a variety of activities, including the pet parade, and booths and displays from local businesses offering pet services.

Johnstown got on the board as Mullan scored at 6:19 of the second period. Mullan now has four goals in five games played since being traded from Amarillo. Springfield responded with a goal from Patrick Curry at 14:26.

The Jr. Blues took the lead early in the third period, as David Dekorte scored 1:26 into the period. Tyler Basham tied the game back up, scoring at 6:32. Both goaltenders stood strong, sending the game into overtime, and the eventual shootout.

In the shootout, Jordan Watt and Mitch Hall scored for the Tomahawks, and Okicki stopped four of five shooters, to set the final score at 3-2.

Okicki stopped 20 of 22 shots in the win, his fourth straight. Stefanos Lekkas picked up the loss, stopping 35 of 37 shots in regulation, and two of four in the shootout. Springfield went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Johnstown did not score on their lone man advantage.

The Tomahawks travel to Flint, Mich. to take on the Michigan Warriors Oct. 11-12. They return home to take on the Soo Eagles Oct. 24-26.
