Tomahawks Sweep Weekend with 11-5 Win

EBENSBURG, Pa – The Johnstown Tomahawks completed their preseason schedule with an 11-5 victory over New York Apple Core Sunday afternoon at the North Central Recreation Center in Ebensburg, Pa

 

Johnstown clicked on all cylinders from the start of the first period with two quick goals from Joe Kile and Hayden Rowan .

 

One minute after Rowan’s goal, Dalton Hunter made it 3-0 Tomahawks. Filips Buncis registered the lone assist.

 

Riley Doyon increased the lead to 4-0 with a goal at the 8:20 mark of the first period. Ian Kwant and Nick Bruce picked up the helpers.

 

Apple Core got on the board with a Travis Quigley power play goal. The goal was quickly followed by a Tomahawks goal from Nick Bruce to make the score 5-1.

 

Cameron Smith scored a shorthanded goal at 16:49 of the first period to increase the score to 6-1. Hunter registered the lone assist.

 

Apple Core netted two goals to end the period from Noah Costick and Quigley to set the score at 6-3 going into the first intermission.

 

In the second period, Kile and Doyon upgraded the score to 8-3 with goals four minutes apart. Kwant assisted on Kile’s goal while Bruce and Adam Pilewicz helped Doyon’s goal.

 

The third period saw Apple Core get on the board first when Josh Oring found space behind Tomahawks goalie Vinnie Purpura.

 

Hunter would score his second of the game at 53 seconds of the third period followed by a marker from defenseman Adam Pilewicz.

 

The scoring would conclude with a shorthanded goal from Zak Galambos and a power play goal from New York’s Go Uemura.

 

The Tomahawks begin the regular season on the road Sept. 9 when the team visits Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
