Tomahawks Training Camp Update

Sep 3, 2015

With their first pre-season game less than a week away, the Johnstown Tomahawks have been preparing during training camp sessions at Planet Ice. The team is preparing for a season that features a new division and new rivals.

“We’ve been working on good habits, how to play the game the right way, and improving our competition level,” said Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia.

Video is also used to solidify the skills being taught during the on-ice sessions.

“We use NHL clips based off of what we were trying to do in the morning sessions to show different situations,” said Letizia.

The players completed fitness testing on Monday and Tuesday, before finishing each day with additional opportunities for evaluation and competition.

The Tomahawks will continue using the same game plan for the training sessions leading up to next week’s preseason games.

The Tomahawks will take part in three preseason games over five days, starting with Tuesday night’s visit to Youngstown. The Tomahawks will visit their new division rivals, the Aston Rebels, on Sept. 11 before hosting the Rebels at Kirk Nevin Ice Arena in Greensburg Sept. 12. The Sept. 12 game will begin at 7 p.m. and will double as a fundraiser for the Westmoreland Hockey Association.  Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door or through Westmoreland Eagles players.

Johnstown opens the 2015-16 NAHL regular season with a road contest against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Face-off for the Sept. 18 season opener is set for 7 p.m. To see the complete Tomahawks schedule, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com
