Tomahawks Weekend Preview: October 9-11

            The Johnstown Tomahawks hit the road this weekend for a three-game road trip to Aston and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The trip marks the Tomahawks final road trip before the Oct. 16 home opener against New Jersey.

Johnstown takes on the Aston Rebels Friday night, before traveling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for a pair of games against the Knights Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

At Aston (Friday October 9th 7 p.m. EST)

            Johnstown is looking for revenge against Aston, after falling to the Rebels 3-2 in overtime last Friday night.

Luke Lynch and Tommy Horn got the Tomahawks on the board with goals at 13:32 and 14:42 of the first period.

Aston responded with a second period goal by Dean Balsamo and a goal by Kristofers Bindulis with 34 seconds remaining in regulation. Two minutes into overtime, Jerry Miettuten gave the Rebels the win with his first goal of the season.

The Rebels enter this weekend three points behind the Tomahawks for second place in the East Division. They lead Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by seven points for third place.

At Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Saturday October 10th 7 p.m. and Sunday October 11th 1 p.m.)

            The Tomahawks return to the Revolution Ice Centre in Scranton for the first time since defeating the Knights 7-3 in the season opener. Six different Tomahawks scored in the come-from-behind victory, while Anthony Parrucci scored a pair of goals.

            Kohei Sato scored a pair of goals for the Knights, while Steven Kelly got the opening goal 2:25 into the first period.

            Jake Gwillim stopped 28 of 31 shots in the victory, while the Tomahawks went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

            The Knights have dropped their first seven games of the season, earning their only point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Corpus Christi at the North American Hockey League Showcase.

            Following this weekend’s games, the Tomahawks open their 2015-16 schedule against New Jersey next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17. Face-off for both games is set for 7 p.m.
