Top Prospect: Ryan Burr

Feb 8, 2016

With the North American Hockey League’s Top Prospects Tournament one week away, we will be taking a closer look at all of the Tomahawks representatives that will represent the Johnstown Tomahawks at the highly scouted event in Plymouth, Mich.

First up is big-bodied defenseman and New Jersey native Ryan Burr.

Burr is not a stranger to the Johnstown Tomahawks.

Last season, he suited up for the now-defunct Michigan Warriors, a team that the Tomahawks developed a heated rivalry with during the first three seasons.

With the Warriors, Burr scored three goals and seven assist and helped lead the Warriors to a playoff push in the latter part of the 2014-15 season.

Prior to joining the Warriors, the Toms River, NJ native played for the Flint Jr. Generals of the NA3HL where he was second on the team in scoring among defenseman with 24 points.

He developed his game in the well-known New Jersey Junior Titans hockey program. In 2012-13, Burr played for the U18 Titans program.

While with the U18 Titans, Burr scored six goals and five assists for a second place finish in team scoring.

Now with the Tomahawks Burr is enjoying a career season in the NAHL, surpassing his point total from last season with 17 points in 37 games. Additionally, Burr has been selected to represent the East Division at the Top Prospects Game Feb. 15-16.

He is one of seven players to be selected, an honor that provides an excellent opportunity for all players to be scouted by more than 200 scouts who will attend the event.

With his booming slap shot and solid defensive skills, Burr will look to make an impact at the tournament and down the stretch for the Tomahawks as the playoffs draw near.

Stay tuned for more information regarding the tournament and how you can follow along. Tomorrow, we will take a look at defenseman Zak Galambos, who will be a part of the Selects team.
