Weekend Preview: Johnstown at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Johnstown Tomahawks open the 2016-17 regular season tonight, Friday, Sept. 9 with a trip to Northeastern Pennsylvania to meet the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m at Revolution Ice Centre

The Tomahawks and Knights met 16 times during the 2015-16 NAHL season which saw Johnstown control the series with a record of 12-3-1.

The last time both of these teams faced each other was the final game of the 2015-16 season on April 2, 2015. The Tomahawks skated away with a 6-3 victory en route to a strong showing in the 2016 Robertson Cup Playoffs.

The Knights return a healthy core of veterans including Braden Brown, the team’s second leading scorer from last season. Brown, a Plano, Texas native, garnered 21 goals and 17 assists in 53 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Also returning to the Knights are forwards Aiden Beck, Jimmy Elser and Reed Robinson, defensemen Dorian Dawson, Joe Campolieto and Tim Gelatt and goaltender Grant Valentine.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton added two former New Jersey Titans in the offseason by trading for Mike Gelatt and Joe Schuler.

Johsntown brings back eight veterans in its own right. Forwards Filips Buncis, Tommy Horn, Dalton Hunter, Tiernan Seningen and Cameron Smith are back upfront for the Tomahawks.

The returning defensive core consists of Zak Galambos and Adam Pilewicz while the lone returning goalie is Ryan Glander.
