Weekend Preview: Johnstown vs. Aston

Sep 11, 2015

The Tomahawks close out the pre-season this weekend, as they take on the Aston Rebels in a home-and-home series. The Rebels will host tonight’s game, before the Tomahawks host the Rebels Saturday night at Kirk Nevin Ice Arena in Greensburg.

Saturday’s 7 p.m. game doubles as a fundraiser for the Westmoreland Hockey Association.  Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door or through Westmoreland Eagles players.

As members of the new East Division, Johnstown and Aston will meet 18 times during the upcoming regular season, with the first regular season meeting coming on Oct. 2 in Aston. The first meeting at the War Memorial will take place Nov. 27.

Johnstown looks to rebound after falling 6-1 to the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms in the pre-season opener on Tuesday night. Alex Alger scored the lone Tomahawks goal, with Dalton Hunter and Austin Heakins earning the assists on the goal.

The Rebels will make their debut this weekend, after the Rio Grande Valley franchise moved from Texas to Pennsylvania during the off-season. This will be the only pre-season games for the Rebels, who open the season next Friday night on the road against New Jersey.

Following this weekend’s games, the Tomahawks open the 2015-16 regular season with games at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and New Jersey next Friday and Saturday. They then travel to Blaine, Minn. for the 2015 NAHL Showcase.
