BLAINE, Minn. – The Aberdeen Wings defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks 5-1 Friday afternoon at the Schwan Super Rink on day three of the NAHL Showcase.

Aberdeen scored the game’s first marker at 5:21 of the first period when a turnover found the stick of Trey Bagwell who fired it on net that was deflected in by Riley Murphy. Jed Pietila picked up the secondary assist.

In the second period, the Wings gained a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the second period when Joe Strada fired a wrist home past Johnstown goalie Jack Faulkner. Ricky Carballo assisted on the goal.

Forward Nathan Burke gave Aberdeen a 3-0 lead with his power play goal at 11:08 of the second period. Dusan Kmec and Satchel Clendenin assisted on Burke’s second of the season.

The Wings added another goal to move the score to 4-0 late in the second period with two seconds remaining. The goal was credited to Colton Fletcher.

Johnstown scored its first goal of the afternoon early on the power play in the third period off the stick of forward Logan Stork. Andrew Quetell and Carter Dwyer picked up the assists.

Aberdeen set the final score at 5-1 at 17:20 of the third period off a goal from Andrew Walker.

The Tomahawks wrap up the 2017 NAHL Showcase Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. faceoff with the Odessa Jackalopes. Johnstown opens the 2017-18 home portion of their schedule on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.
