Five-Goal Third Period Leads Hawks to 7-1 Win

EBENSBURG – The Johnstown Tomahawks used a five-goal third period to defeat the Binghamton Jr. Senators 7-1 in preseason action Friday night at North Central Recreation Center.
Johnstown peppered Jr. Sens goaltender Jeff Zero with shots on goal in the first period and eventually broke through the goaltender.
At 12:13 of the first period, Tomahawks forward Ryan Haag scored his first of the preseason. Sean Bauchens and Joey Baez picked up the assists.
In the second period, the Tomahawks increased their advantage with an Anthony Mastromonica marker at 5:54 of the period. Bauchens and Hale registered the assists.
The third period proved to be an offensive explosion for the Tomahawks.
Forward Dom Posta picked up his first goal of the evening at 2:28 of the third on the power play. Oliver Benwell and Cam Hebert picked up the helpers.
A little over six minutes later, Tomahawks forward Vincent De Sanctis backhanded a goal past Zero for a 4-0 Tomahawks lead. Andrew Andary assisted on the goal.
Binghamton broke the zero on their side of the scoreboard with a goal from Mike Padgeon.
However, that was quickly followed by a goal from Bauchens to increase the lead to 5-1. Posta and Baez were credited with the assists.
Posta scored again at 11:06 of the third period for a 6-1 lead and then Mastromonica follwed with his second goal of the contest to set the final at 7-1.
Both teams return to the ice Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at NCRC.
