Oct 17, 2020

The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Maine Nordiques by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night, splitting their first home series of the 2020-2021 season.

Connor Strobel (Butler, PA) made his Tomahawks debut standing tall stopping 25 of 27 shots faced against the Nordiques. Four of the fives goal scorers for the Tomahawks netted their firsts of the season in Saturday night’s game.

The game started off quiet with the only goal coming from Maine’s Stefan Owens, scoring only a little over a minute into the game. Things were calmer and both teams were more disciplined tonight, with the first penalty not being called until late in the 2nd period.

Tomahawks captain Alex Gritz (Cranberry Township, PA) netted the Tomahawks first goal of the game halfway through the 2nd period tying things up and giving the team the boost they needed going forward.

Maine’s Reese Farrell gave the Nordiques another early period goal. The rest of the 3rd period was all Johnstown, scoring three goals in the final frame of the game. Brendan Clark (Morris Plains, NJ) scored his third goal of the season, netting the insurance goal for the Tomahawks with 2:19 to go in the game. Max Neill got his first of the season on an empty net with only 41 seconds remaining.

After earning the honor of number one star of the game, Clark spoke saying: “I’ve got a lot of confidence in us and we all have a lot of confidence in ourselves, so I’m excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”

The Tomahawks will travel later next week to face off against division rival Northeast Generals for the first time this season. Tomahawks fans can catch the away games exclusively on HockeyTV on Thursday, 10/22 and Friday 10/23. Both games are a noon puck drop.
