The Johnstown Tomahawks fall to the Maryland Black Bears Sunday afternoon 6-1, giving the Black Bears a three-game weekend sweep.
The bad blood was showing between the two rivals Sunday in the first period a combined 54 penalty minutes. Brad McNeil took advantage, getting Maryland on the board with a power play goal coming 9:44 into the game to give his team a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Jesse Horacek netted his fifth goal of the season for the Black Bears just ten seconds into the middle frame, extending Maryland’s lead to two, followed by a third goal from Adam Schankula who scored his tenth of the season to give Maryland a 3-0 lead and a second power play goal on the afternoon.
Johnstown’s Anthony Galante scored a power play goal 10:29 into the third period, putting the Tomahawks on the board and within two. Horacek scored his second goal of the game on the power play, and Samuel Stitz followed up with a goal of his own just 20 seconds later to give the Black Bears a 5-1 lead. Kareem El Bashir scored his sixth of the season, assisted by Raymond Perrault, brother of Tomahawks defenseman Ethan Perrault, to secure a 6-1 win for the Black Bears as they sweep the Tomahawks on their home ice this weekend.
The Tomahawks are back at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA on Friday, March 24 against the Philadelphia Rebels for the first of three games. Stanley Cup Champion Max Talbot will be in attendance for a public appearance meeting fans.
