Tomahawks Sweep Knights with 5-1 Win

PITTSTON, Pa. – The Johnstown Tomahawks swept the WIlkes-Barre/Scranton Knights with a 5-1 road victory Saturday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre.
The Tomahawks started the goal scoring early in the first period with a marker from forward Oliver Benwell. Cameron Hebert and Alex Wilkins picked up the assists.
Forward Sam Solensky put the Tomahawks in front 2-0 with a power play goal assisted by Caron Brière and Benwell.
In the second period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton cut the Tomahawks lead to 2-1 after Jacob Badal found the back of the net behind Tomahawks goaltender Cooper Lukenda.
Johnstown regained the two-goal lead when Brière fired a shot home on the power play for his first of the season. Solensky and Hunter Toale picked up the assists.
Solensky netted his second of the season and of the game minutes later by finishing a two-on-one with Brière for a 4-1 Johnstown lead.
The third period saw the Tomahawks add to their lead with a Christian Gorscak goal at the 3:45 mark of the period.
Johnstown held off the Knights for the rest of the period to set the final at 5-1.
The Tomahawks will travel to Minnesota for the 2018 NAHL Showcase. Johnstown faces the Minnesota Wilderness at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
