Tomahawks Win in Shootout on New Year’s Eve

The Johnstown Tomahawks secured a 3-2 win over the Northeast Generals in a shootout on New Year’s Eve at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA in front of a season-high crowd.

The Tomahawks got off to a better start Friday night, setting the pace early in the first period. Justin Rapp opened the scoring with his second goal of the season coming with 5:39 remaining in the period. Northeast’s Jared Scott evened up the scoring with just 36 seconds to go, tying the game at 1 to end the first period with a shorthanded goal.

Ryan Remick gave the Generals the lead 6:46 into the second period with his seventh goal of the season. A few minutes later, Nick Ahern knotted the game back up at two with his fourth of the season, sending the game to the third period tied at 2.

After a scoreless third period, the game headed to overtime. The Tomahawks had a late power play in overtime, but were not able to find the game winner, sending the game into a shootout. After eleven rounds, Johnny Ulicny secured the game-winning goal, giving the Tomahawks a 3-2 win over the Generals to close out 2022.

The Tomahawks are out on the road next weekend as they face off against the New Jersey Titans in Middletown Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7.
