Tomahawks Drop Alaska Trip Finale To Ice Dogs

 

FAIRBANKS– The Johnstown Tomahawks closed out their trip to Alaska with a 7-5 loss to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs Saturday night at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

           

            Fairbanks (13-2-1) took a 3-0 lead in the first period, thanks to goals by Reggie Lutz, Alex Mehnert and Ryner Gorowsky.

 

            Adam Pilewicz got Johnstown (8-6-3) on the board later in the period, scoring his third goal of the season at 16:31. Cameron Smith added the assist on the goal.

 

            Fairbanks extended its lead to 4-1, as Jakob Stridsberg scored at 18:50. Just over a minute later, Lutz made it a 5-1 game with his second goal of the game.

 

            Andrew Romano pulled the Tomahawks back within three with his sixth goal of the season at 3:59 of the second period. Romano has now scored five goals in the last five games. Drew Doyon and Casey Linkenheld added the assists on the power-play goal.

 

            Todd Burgess made it a 6-2 game, scoring a power-play goal at 12:04. Jakob Stridsberg added the assist on the goal.

 

            Linkenheld got Johnstown its third goal of the game at 16:02 of the second period. Filips Buncis and Zak Galambos picked up the assists on the goal.

 

            Justin Cmunt picked up his first goal of the season, pulling the Tomahawks within two at 2:56 of the third period. Galambos and Luke Lynch earned the assists on the goal.

 

            Logan Coomes gave the Ice Dogs their final goal of the game, scoring on the power play at 11:27. Gorowsky and Burgess added assists on the goal.

 

            Linkenheld took advantage of the extra attacker, scoring his second of the game at 19:04. Doyon picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.

 

            CJ Boothe earned the win, stopping 31 of 36 shots. Jacob Gwillim suffered the loss, stopping 24 of 28 shots in relief of Nick DeSimone, who stopped 19 of 22 shots in the first 12 minutes of the game.

           

            Johnstown closes out its road trip this weekend, taking on Aston Friday night and New Jersey Saturday night. They return home to start an 11-game homestand Nov. 12-14 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.
