The Johnstown Tomahawks fell to the Elmira Aviators by a final score of, 7-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The first period opened with both teams carrying the intensity from the previous night, each determined to secure a win and pushing hard to make every play count. The Aviators wasted no time, scoring two quick goals to establish an early 2-0 lead over the Tomahawks. Despite the early setback, the Tomahawks didn’t back down. Taybor Aldrich stepped up, finding the back of the net for his third goal of the season. His goal, assisted by Tate Pecknold and Ryan Flaherty, cut the Aviators’ lead in half, energizing the Tomahawks as they fought to get back into the game.
Heading into the second period, we saw a strong response from the Tomahawks, with Adam Ondris evening the score at 2-2 after a well-executed play, assisted by Sam Blanton and Lukas Klemm. For a moment, it looked like the Tomahawks had regained their footing. However, the Aviators soon regained control, scoring two unanswered goals midway through the period, pushing their lead to 4-2. Despite the Tomahawks’ best efforts, they found themselves trailing by two goals heading into the third period.
The final period began with Elmira striking first, extending their lead to widen the gap. Captain Dylan Shane answered back for the Tomahawks, finding the back of the net and narrowing the score to 3-5, giving his team hope. Despite their relentless effort and hard-fought battle to mount a comeback, the Aviators remained in control, adding two more goals to their tally. In the end, Elmira sealed the game with a decisive 7-3 victory, leaving the Tomahawks just short in their pursuit of a late-game rally.
