JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Northeast Generals by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night in Canton, Massachusetts to complete their second sweep of the season and first road series sweep.
After surviving last night’s shot brigade, the Tomahawks clearly wanted to come out on Saturday night and dictate the style of play and control from the jump. However, it was Northeast once again who struck first just eight minutes into the first frame with a shorthanded breakaway goal. The rest of the period played on with the Generals actually generating the play and handling a 15-4 shot advantage heading to the locker room.
Like 20 hours prior, Saturday night featured another 2nd period that the Tomahawks found themselves as the only ones on the scoreboard. Forward Nick White scored the game tying goal at 3:39 of the first period with assists from two Tomahawks defensemen, Dylan Shane and Nick Jarmain. Nearly 11 minutes after Whites’ tally, Forward Cullen Emery would notch his second goal of the season with help from his line mate Taybor Aldrich on the assist. The second period yielded 30 total shots between both teams but only resulted in two goals, as Tomahawks goaltender Zack Ferris continued his stellar play stopping all 17 Northeast bids of the period.
To begin the 3rd period, Tomahawks forward Adam Ondris scored one of the quickest goals to begin a period you will see, scoring his 3rd goal of the weekend giving his team the two-goal lead they desperately needed. The Tomahawks would go on to outshoot the Generals in the 3rd period 15-9 in a situation you would think the Generals would be pressing and putting everything onto the Tomahawks goal. With what must seem like quite the comfortable feeling playing in front of a goalie who doesn’t seem to get tired, the Tomahawks were able to stymie every Northeast chance of the period and went on to add the dagger with a Caden Olenczak empty-net goal with just about two minutes left to play giving the Tomahawks four unanswered goals to lead them to victory once again.
