TOMAHAWKS DROP FIRST GAME OF WEEKEND TO NORTHEAST 4-1

Nov 9, 2024

JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Tomahawks had their six-game point streak snapped on Friday night in Johnstown, falling 4-1 to the Northeast Generals in regulation.

An exciting opening night of Military weekend festivities kicked off in Johnstown on Friday night but unfortunately the Tomahawks couldn’t use much of the energy to their advantage and found themselves in a 2-0 deficit in the first period. Northeast built their lead with goals from Rich Rucireto and Luke Gallo and took it into the locker room, along with a 12-9 shot-on-goal advantage.

The Tomahawks needed a big 2nd period, and contrary to the way things played out the weekend prior, the Hawks’ path to a comeback effort was shaping up to be a much longer and bumpier one. Northeast would add a third goal just three minutes into the period with a goal from Ben Campeau. After 15 minutes of fast paced, yet low event hockey, producing only a few stoppages and one penalty, the Generals decided to add another insurance marker with a little over 3:00 to play. Northeast skated their way to a 4-0 advantage heading to the final frame.

In the NAHL, weekend series are usually two games against the same opponent and every point counts. After being down 4-0 after 40 minutes, the Tomahawks easily could have mailed it in and essentially let the game get even more out of hand. However, they responded in a way that has to make them feel better going into Saturday night’s contest against this same Generals team, playing their best period of the night in the 3rd. The Tomahawks registered the only even-strength goal of the period with a goal from Charlie Zetterkvist, his first as a Tomahawk with just over 5:00 to play. The Hawks finished strong and killed off a penalty as time winded down but ultimately fell to the Generals 4-1.

The Tomahawks return to action tomorrow night at 7:00 PM for another matchup with the Northeast Generals looking to split the weekend series.
