The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Elmira Aviators by a final score of 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, extending win streak to five.
Entering the first period with their sights set on extending their win streak, the Tomahawks wasted no time making an impact. Adam Ondris, assisted by Cullen Emery and Caden Olenczak, scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season to give Johnstown an early lead. Elmira, however, quickly countered, tying the game just 29 seconds later. At the end of the first period the two teams would be tied at one.
The second period followed a similar script to the first. Cullen Emery reclaimed the lead for the Tomahawks with a power-play goal, assisted by Charlie Zetterkvist and Lukas Klemm. Yet again, Elmira managed to spoil the advantage, tying the game at two. As the horn sounded to end the period, the teams headed to the locker room deadlocked once more.
Neither team managed to find the back of the net during the third period, sending the game into overtime to decide the winner. Just two minutes into the extra frame, Cullen Emery emerged as the hero for the Johnstown Tomahawks, scoring the game-winner off an assist from Ryan Flaherty. With the victory, the Tomahawks extended their win streak to five games, completing the sweep of the Aviators. Goaltender Zack Ferris delivered a strong performance, stopping 24 of 26 shots to secure the win.
