The Series
The top two teams in the North division clash tonight, as the Fighting Falcons and Tomahawks meet for the first time in Port Huron this season. The teams played the first six games of the series in Johnstown, with each winning three games.
On Nov. 22, The Tomahawks took advantage of a pair of third period power-play goals in a 4-3 victory. Zach Wallace and Brandon Reinholz got the Tomahawks on the board in the first period, before Logan Lambdin tied the game with two goals in the second. Mitch Hall and Matthew Meier scored the power-play goals at 2:42 and 4:05 to give the Tomahawks a 4-2 lead. Nico Coffman cut the lead to 4-3, but the Tomahawks held on for the win.
On Nov. 23, the Fighting Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with Mitch Maloney scoring both goals. Forest Donovan got the Tomahawks on the board, scoring his first goal of the year at 16:08 of the second period. Zach Wallace tied the game 1:32 into the third period, sending the game into the shootout.
Nick Horne and Tyler Basham each scored in the shootout, before Zach Wallace pulled the Tomahawks ahead in the fourth round. Alex Okicki made a diving save on Noah Batis in the fifth round to seal the weekend sweep.
Following this weekend’s games, the Tomahawks and Fighting Falcons meet again January 17 & 18.
The Tomahawks
The Tomahawks return to division play after going 2-1-1 in Wenatchee over the past two weekends. Mitch Hall scored four points (1G-3A) , and Trevor Recktenwald and Shane Bednard each had three points during the four games. Johnstown is 7-2-1 in its last ten games.
The Fighting Falcons
Port Huron enters this weekend after falling to the Michigan Warriors 4-3 on Wednesday night. Mitch Maloney, Alex Archibald, and Jonathan Kopacka each scored for Port Huron in the loss. Port Huron currently leads the Tomahawks and Warriors by four points in the North division.
