Alumni Update: Former Tomahawks Defensemen Pens NHL Contract Extension

Oct 26, 2020

Former Johnstown Tomahawks defenseman Casey Nelson signed on for another season in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres. The contract will kick in this upcoming season for Nelson, who will be playing his fifth season with the Sabres organization.

Nelson played a crucial role for the Tomahawks back end in his only season here, scoring ten goals and earning 22 assists to help lead the organization to success in their inaugural season back in 2012-2013.

After leaving Johnstown, Nelson went on to play Division I hockey at Minnesota State University for three years before signing an entry-level contract with Buffalo during the 2015-16 NHL season. Ever since, the Stillwater, Minnesota native has been playing between the NHL level and with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.
