Oct 28, 2021

Johnstown Tomahawks rookie forward Jake Black has committed to the University of Connecticut to further his hockey playing career at the Division I level.

“Jake has been a huge part of our team this season and has emerged as a dangerous offensive force within the league,” said Head Coach Mike Letizia on Black’s commitment to join the Huskies. “His play has demonstrated that he is deserving of the opportunity to play at the next level and I am so proud of him on his commitment to UConn. Additionally, the chance to play for his “hometown” Division I program has to be a dream come true for him. Jake is a great kid and I couldn’t be happier for him and his family.”

The Pomfret, Connecticut native is atop the league in both goals and total points to start the season, with 12 goals and 7 assists just over a month into the 2021-22 season. Black was recently honored with East Division Star of the Week for the week of October 11-17 and is currently riding on a 12-game point streak, dating back to September 16 at the NAHL Showcase in Minnesota.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be a UConn Husky,” said Black. “Growing up in Connecticut, it is a great honor that few kids have. I can’t wait to get to campus and be a part of something special that they keep building.”

The Huskies are currently in first place in their conference, with a record of 2-1-0-0 and currently have four NAHL alumni on their roster.
